Sustainable in every production phase

At Lanificio dell’Olivo, our entire internal production process is focused on Sustainability. Our efforts and results prove our constant commitment to respecting the environment, health of workers and consumers and the ethical treatment of animals through quality products and processes.

Our vision translates into focus on to long-term investments and the use of green energies, to respond to expectations for the future of the planet and all living in it.

Concrete actions for a sustainable development

The care we put into creating our products is the same that guides us in carrying out actions to protect the environment and people. For this reason, years ago and among the first in the yarns industry, we developed the program GOING GREEN for Sustainable Fashion.

Going Green covers all the key areas of sustainability: Social Responsibility, Chemical Risk Management, Traceability, Environmental Sustainability and is based on concrete actions, such as the commitment to reduce the presence of harmful chemicals in fabrics and garments.

Social Responsibility

We are part of the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) of 4sustainability® and our management actions are based on ethical, social and environmental assessments.

For this reason, we have an Ethical Code, and every year, we draw up our Sustainability Report and fill in the HIGG INDEX, the tool that evaluates the sustainable practices conducted by the company in the social and environmental field developed by the SAC (Sustainable Apparel Coalition).
Corporate wellbeing and people-centric policies are our prerogative. With the PEOPLE 4sustainability® Protocol, we have defined a roadmap to continuous improvement of performance and the wellbeing of our staff.

Chemical Risk Management

Lanificio dell’Olivo applies the CHEM 4sustainability® Protocol for the elimination of toxic and harmful substances from the production processes through the MRSL (Manufacturing Restricted Substance List) of ZDHC, for which we have reached the Progressive level in the Supplier To Zero Program.

The raw materials and our supply and production chains are controlled with stringent parameters from a chemical point of view. We constantly check the conformity of the products to our PRSL (Product Restricted Substance List) and we respect the requirements of fashion brands and the most demanding international regulations.

In 2016 we were among the first yarn producers to sign the DETOX agreement, a program promoted by GREENPEACE aimed at eliminating toxic and harmful substances for humans and the environment from production processes. Today we are part of CID, Consorzio Italiano Implementazione Detox.

Traceability

Our production processes are fully tracked from the entry of raw materials to the sale of the final product, to offer complete transparency and support the customer in requests for information.
When we joined the TRACE 4sustainability® Protocol, we started a structured action to trace and monitor our suppliers and our internal processes. With the data we collect, we produce a report about the supply chain that also includes corrective actions and improvements.
This allows us to guarantee the conformity of our yarns to the most demanding requirements of international regulations and to our customers’ personalized specifications. For most of our collections, we also guarantee compliance with the Chinese regulation GB18401.

Over the years we have achieved various product certifications such as:
GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) for the use of organic cotton and linen
OCS (Organic Blended Content Standard) use of organic cotton and linen
GRS (Global Recycled Standard) use of recycled polyester, cotton, polyamide, viscose, wool and acrylic
RWS (Responsible Wool Standard) use of responsible wool
RMS (Responsible Mohair Standard) use of responsible mohair
RAS (Responsible Alpaca Standard) use of responsible alpaca
RCS (Recycled Content Standard) use of recycled cotton, wool, polyester, polyamide, viscose, wool and acrylic
Our product certifications also include the MATERIALS 4sustainability® Protocol that gives us a personalised map, for each raw material, of the sustainable products used. Annual reporting shows our actual progress and allows us to have a key element for defining our future goals.

Environmental Sustainability

Knowing that the textile industry uses an important amount of energy, Lanificio dell’Olivo aims to optimize and use resources efficiently, minimizing waste, impact on the environment and recycling all possible materials.

By joining the PLANET 4Sustainability protocol, “The Inventory of GHG Emissions” has been recently published. This project has defined the CARBON FOOTPRINT of the company. In 2022, 90% of the energy used in our production cycles is green energy with a portion made by self-produced photovoltaic and the remaining portion coming from renewable sources. 97% of the water we consume in production comes from purification plants and is subsequently recycled and used in other processes.

Sustainability Report

Employees, customers, suppliers, territory, environment and community are the subjects with which we interact every day and for which we aim for sustainable development. We feel strong responsibility towards them. For this reason, every year we publish our Sustainability Report.
